Der Duft Des Westens

“Der Duft des Westens” is a student co-production by Arne Breusing and myself. I made the story of my father’s escape from the DDR my graduation topic.
All textures are authentic printed matter such as letters, minutes, newspapers and comics, which are set in the contemporary environment of the escape – a real existing paper world, so to speak.

The film was created in stereoscopy and submitted as a bachelor’s thesis in the media design course at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Hannover.
The film earned us a 1.0 in the final grade.

The German Ministry of Education has included the film in their curriculum and there are students who have to write a class assignment about this film.

On the occasion of the 25th “Mauerfall” Festival, the film was shown on a big screen in front of 270,000 spectators at the Brandenburger Tor.
The production time took half a year.
